There are a range of government grants which are available to help households, landlords, businesses and community organisations cut the cost of both chargepoints and the infrastructure needed to support them.

EV chargepoint grant for homes with onstreet parking - a helpful option for households without driveways

Provides up to £500 if you: 

  • live in a rented or owned property 
  • rely on on-street parking 
  • are installing a safe cross-pavement charging solution (such as a charging gully).

EV Charging Channel

This grant helps residents install a cross‑pavement cable channel, allowing you to safely charge an electric vehicle from your home when you park on the road outside. Funding of up to £1,200 is available to cover the cost of a typical installation. You will still need to pay for the council licence and ensure all requirements are met before applying.

What’s included and important to know:
  • Up to £1,200 towards installing a cross‑pavement cable channel
  • A licence fee of £184 applies and must be paid by the applicant
  • You must arrange planning permission for the EV charge point
  • Additional government grants may be available for the charge point itself
  • Homes with existing EV charge points can apply if all criteria are met

EV chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners - ideal for people living in flats or rented homes where installation costs are a barrier.

Up to £500 towards installing a chargepoint at your property.

Available if you: 

  • rent or own your home, and 
  • have private offstreet parking.

Workplace Charging Scheme for businesses, workplaces and landlords - designed to support staff, visitor or fleet charging

Businesses, charities and public sector organisations can get up to £350 per socket, for up to 40 sockets across all sites.

Chargepoint & Infrastructure Grant for landlords - Supports flats, rented homes, office buildings and mixed use sites

Landlords can receive: 

  • up to £500 per socket, and 
  • up to £30,000 per property for wider infrastructure (such as cabling and enabling works). 

Annual limits include: 

  • up to 200 sockets per year for residential properties 
  • 100 applications commercial properties

Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions - helps education settings offer staff EV charging and prepare for future demand

  • Statefunded schools, academies and colleges can apply for up to £2,000 per socket, with support available for up to 40 sockets.
