Cornwall Council’s Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP)

The Local Area Energy Plan is Cornwall Council’s collaborative roadmap, alongside the Isles of Scilly, to transform how energy is produced, shared, and used in the region.

It focuses on Cornwall’s natural energy strengths, like geothermal heat and offshore wind, and sets out how to build the right infrastructure to make the most of them.

One major challenge is our electricity grid, which needs upgrading to handle all the clean energy we can generate. Without improvements, much of this local renewable power can’t be fully used in homes and businesses.

By identifying the smartest, most affordable steps to cut carbon, the plan aims to grow green jobs, attract investment, and help Cornwall lead the way to net zero.

The Cornwall section of the Local Area Energy Plan has been drafted and is now available to read:
