Solid wall insulation – have you had a letter from Ofgem?
Feb 26 2025
If you have had internal or external solid wall insulation from ECO4 or the Great British Insulation Scheme, you will soon get a letter from Ofgem, the energy regulator.
This is because in some cases, not enough ventilation or insulation has been fitted, or the quality of the work has been poor quality. If these problems aren’t fixed, they could cause damp and mould. The government has stopped 39 companies from fitting any more insulation until they have fixed these problems.
✅️ The letter from Ofgem will tell you what will happen next. This might include arranging for a qualified professional from Ofgem or TrustMark coming to check if your insulation needs fixing by the installer, or it might just confirm that your solid wall insulation is OK and that no further action needs to be taken.
⚠️ If you’re a tenant, please let your landlord know about the letter from Ofgem.
✅️ You won’t have to pay to fix anything and you should not be asked to pay any money for this work.
⚠️ Look out for your Unique Measure Reference number in your letter. This will be used whenever someone contacts you about your insulation. If you’re unsure if someone contacting you is genuine, you can contact the Ofgem helpline on Freephone 0808 169 4447.
✅️ More information can be found on the UK Government website and on Money Saving Expert.com
